To install S2IBIS3, simply unpack the zip file. This distribution contains:

README this file.
s2ibis3.csh	Run this file to execute s2ibis3 for linux or unix
s2ibis3.bat	Run this file to execute s2ibis3 for Windows
s2ibis3.txt	An explanation of the command structure for the s2i file and the
key features and differences of s2ibis3 as compared with s2ibis2.
curves.txt	An explaination of how the various curves are obtained in s2ibis3.

modification_v1.1.txt An explanation of the changes made to s2ibis3 in the latest revision (v1.1).

java directory with java source code and class files.
The source code can be modified and recompiled using

Hi,

I am not aware if installing S2IBIS3 will enable me to generate the 3.2
version IBIS models. Is that so ?

Currently we use a script to generate IBIS models which are compliant with
2.0 format.

There is a request from one of the customers that they want 3.2 format IBIS
models.

I would like to know how do I upgrade to 3.2 version ?

Is there a document which would help me do it ?

Best Regards

Chetana

This README file describes the v1.1 distribution of s2ibis3.

This directory contains the s2ibis3 Java application.

This utilitiy has been tested for Sun Solaris (5.7), Linux 2.4.18 and
Windows XP.

To install S2IBIS3, simply unpack the zip file. This distribution contains:

README this file.
s2ibis3.csh Run this file to execute s2ibis3 for linux or unix
s2ibis3.bat Run this file to execute s2ibis3 for Windows
s2ibis3.txt An explanation of the command structure for the s2i file
and the
key features and differences of s2ibis3 as
compared with s2ibis2.
curves.txt An explaination of how the various curves are obtained
in s2ibis3.

modification_v1.1.txt An explanation of the changes made to s2ibis3 in the
latest revision (v1.1).

java directory with java source code and class files.
The source code can be modified and recompiled
using
                         Java sdk 1.4.0.
                         The source code consists of
                         1)s2iHeader.java
                         2)s2iutil.java

                         3)s2ispice.java
                         4)s2ianalyz.java
                         5)s2iParser.java
                         6)s2ibis3.java

example example directory with 4 sub-dirs ex1, ex2, ex3
and ex4.

ex1 Directory with a sample buffer.s2i file along with
a buffer.ibs
file. it also has the buffer.sp, spectre.mod and
hspice.mod files
to be able to run the example properly.

ex2 Repeat of ex1 run with Hspice with a slightly
better model.

ex3 Directory with similar files as above and an extra
netlist file
that has the netlist of the parallel_mosfet. This
is needed for
demonstrating the working of the [Series MOSFET]
keyword.

ex4 Directory with tri-state drivers show how multiple
Vdd's can be
used using the [Pin Map] keyword. This example
uses HSpice.

Requirements: To run s2ibis3, Java2, version 1.4.0 must be
installed.
                         A minimum of Java 2 Runtime Environment(JRE),
version 1.4.x.
must be installed to be able to run s2ibis3. Users
could also
install Java 2 Standard Development Kit (SDK)
version 1.4.x.
This is preferred over the JRE as the user could
modify a java
file and recompile the code. Java JRE or SDK could
be downloaded
                         free from http://java.sun.com
s2ibis3 assumes that the spice engines are set in
the path
                         variables and ready for use.

This version has been tested on HSpice ver 2001.2

Compiling the Code : If the code has to be compiled, it must be compiled in
the
                              following order -s2iHeader.java,
s2iutil.java,
                              s2ispice.java, s2ianalyz.java, s2iParser.java
and
s2ibis3.java. If this order is not followed,
compilation
                              error could be experienced.

Running S2ibis3 : sun/linux/unix
-To run s2ibis3, type the following on
the command line:
                                     % s2ibis3.csh -s2ibis3 buffer.s2i
where buffer.s2i is the s2i command
file as discussed in
                                     the s2ibis3.txt
-If there is a 'permission denied'
error when running the
.csh file, change permissions by doing

                                     % chmod 744 s2ibis3.csh
-If it is desired, s2ibis3 could be
run from a different
                                     directory from the installation
directory by using the
                                     '-root' switch with s2ibis3.csh as
this example suggest:
                                     % s2ibis3 -root ../../s2i_install_dir
- -s2ibis3 buffer.s2i

                           windows
-most of the instruction for unix
apply for windows users as well.
-To run s2ibis3, type the following on
the command prompt:
                                     % s2ibis3.bat -s2ibis3 buffer.s2i
-If the path variables are not set for
java and the spice engines,
                                     read instructions at
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-windows.html
on how to set path variables for
windows. s2ibis3 would not run if paths have
                                     not been set properly.
[note] % is not needed to be inserted in the command line.

Subject: [IBIS-Users] Re: [IBIS] How do I upgrade the IBIS version ?

Hi,

If you are thinking of upgrading the existing model then it depends on
how complex is ur IO cell. How accurately you
want to model it.

For simple cells Input/Output cells there may not be any change between
version2.0 and 3.2.

Version 3.2 support modeling of complex cells more accurately.
And always there is upward compatible available.

You go through the cookbook for all the new features and keywords
available for modeling.
You can figure out which are more required for modeling your design
accurately.

Series and Series_switch models are the extra model_type updated in the
version 3.2.

But if u are generating models from scratch then its better generate
with version 3.2 parser.

Hello Chetana,
=20
what might help you, is a presentation from Bob Ross=20
=20
=20
http://www.vhdl.org/pub/ibis/summits/sep07b/ross_4_2_tree.txt
=20
=20
where you can see all ibis keywords/parameters and an information ,with wh=
ich ibis version they appeared
=20
=20
=20
Anyhow, you have to be aware of that just refering to an ibis version migh=
t not help you, because some ibis parameters are optional.
=20
E.G. models with rising falling waveforms=20
=20
this keyword appeared with ibis version 2.1 but is optional=20
=20
=20
models with over-under-shoot=20
=20
the corresponding keyword [Model Spec] appeared with ibis version 3.2,=
=20
but is not required.
=20
=20
So I think, you might asked your customer directly, which parameters/keywor=
ds he needs for his ibis model
=20

Hi,

I am not aware if installing S2IBIS3 will enable me to generate the 3.2 ve=
rsion IBIS models. Is that so ?=20

Currently we use a script to generate IBIS models which are compliant with =
2.0 format.=20

There is a request from one of the customers that they want 3.2 format IBIS=
 models.=20

I would like to know how do I upgrade to 3.2 version ?=20

Is there a document which would help me do it ?=20

Best Regards=20

Not sure if this has come up in this thread, but Rising and Falling table
interpretation CHANGED. While IBIS is generally back-compatible (except for
1.1), this change was made to clarify an original intent.
=20
In 3.2, the Rising and Falling tables could start with different reference
times. Example: Rising tables at 0nsec and Falling at 50nsec.
=20
In 4.x, both Rising and Falling tables have the SAME reference time
(normally 0nsec). This means that in the example, Rising transitions would
start immediately with the trigger, while Falling transitions would have a
50nsec delay before the output transition could begin.

Hello Chetana,
=20
what might help you, is a presentation from Bob Ross=20
=20
=20
http://www.vhdl.org/pub/ibis/summits/sep07b/ross_4_2_tree.txt
=20
=20
where you can see all ibis keywords/parameters and an information ,with
which ibis version they appeared
=20
=20
=20
Anyhow, you have to be aware of that just refering to an ibis version might
not help you, because some ibis parameters are optional.
=20
E.G. models with rising falling waveforms=20
=20
this keyword appeared with ibis version 2.1 but is optional=20
=20
=20
models with over-under-shoot=20
=20
the corresponding keyword [Model Spec] appeared with ibis version 3.2,=
=20
but is not required.
=20
=20
So I think, you might asked your customer directly, which
parameters/keywords he needs for his ibis model

Hi,

I am not aware if installing S2IBIS3 will enable me to generate the 3.2
version IBIS models. Is that so ?=20

Currently we use a script to generate IBIS models which are compliant with
2.0 format.=20

There is a request from one of the customers that they want 3.2 format IBIS
models.=20

I would like to know how do I upgrade to 3.2 version ?=20

Is there a document which would help me do it ?=20

Best Regards=20

s2ibis3.csh Run this file to execute s2ibis3 for linux or unix
s2ibis3.bat Run this file to execute s2ibis3 for Windows
s2ibis3.txt An explanation of the command structure for the s2i file and the

key features and differences of s2ibis3 as compared with s2ibis2.
curves.txt An explaination of how the various curves are obtained in
s2ibis3.

modification_v1.1.txt An explanation of the changes made to s2ibis3 in the
latest revision (v1.1).

java directory with java source code and class files.
The source code can be modified and recompiled using=20
Java sdk 1.4.0.
The source code consists of=20
1)s2iHeader.java
2)s2iutil.java=20
3)s2ispice.java
4)s2ianalyz.java
5)s2iParser.java
6)s2ibis3.java

example example directory with 4 sub-dirs ex1, ex2, ex3 and ex4.

ex1 Directory with a sample buffer.s2i file along with a buffer.ibs
file. it also has the buffer.sp, spectre.mod and hspice.mod files=20
to be able to run the example properly.

ex2 Repeat of ex1 run with Hspice with a slightly better model.

ex3 Directory with similar files as above and an extra netlist file
that has the netlist of the parallel_mosfet. This is needed for
demonstrating the working of the [Series MOSFET] keyword.

ex4 Directory with tri-state drivers show how multiple Vdd's can be
used using the [Pin Map] keyword. This example uses HSpice.

Requirements: To run s2ibis3, Java2, version 1.4.0 must be installed.=20
A minimum of Java 2 Runtime Environment(JRE), version 1.4.x.
must be installed to be able to run s2ibis3. Users could also
install Java 2 Standard Development Kit (SDK) version 1.4.x.
This is preferred over the JRE as the user could modify a java
file and recompile the code. Java JRE or SDK could be downloaded
free from http://java.sun.com
s2ibis3 assumes that the spice engines are set in the path
variables and ready for use.

This version has been tested on HSpice ver 2001.2=20

Compiling the Code : If the code has to be compiled, it must be compiled in
the
     following order -s2iHeader.java, s2iutil.java,
     s2ispice.java, s2ianalyz.java, s2iParser.java and
s2ibis3.java. If this order is not followed, compilation
     error could be experienced.

Running S2ibis3 : sun/linux/unix
- -To run s2ibis3, type the following on the command line:
% s2ibis3.csh -s2ibis3 buffer.s2i
where buffer.s2i is the s2i command file as discussed in
the s2ibis3.txt
- -If there is a 'permission denied' error when running the
.csh file, change permissions by doing=20
% chmod 744 s2ibis3.csh
- -If it is desired, s2ibis3 could be run from a different
directory from the installation directory by using the
'-root' switch with s2ibis3.csh as this example suggest:
% s2ibis3 -root ../../s2i_install_dir -s2ibis3 buffer.s2i

  windows
-most of the instruction for unix apply for windows users as well.
- -To run s2ibis3, type the following on the command prompt:
% s2ibis3.bat -s2ibis3 buffer.s2i
- -If the path variables are not set for java and the spice engines,=20
read instructions at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-windows.html
on how to set path variables for windows. s2ibis3 would not run if paths
have
not been set properly.
[note] % is not needed to be inserted in the command line.=20

Please let me know if you intend to provide a letter of support for this
proposal. We have received some responses but at this stage do not have the
critical mass that is likely to lead to a winning proposal. NSF is highly
competitive. Less than 10% of submitted proposals are funded.

Thanks to those of you who have responded so far.

Subject: Seeking Letters of Support for NextGen Spice2Ibis proposal to NSF

The purpose of this email is to seek letters of support for a proposal we
are preparing for the National Science Foundation (a US Government Agency)
for a next generation Spice2Ibis effort. In the past, Spice2Ibis was
supported by DARPA but with substantial changes to how DARPA does business,
that model is no longer viable. I have attached an Executive Summary of the
proposal we are preparing for NSF. The full proposal is due at NSF on
February 7.

If as many of you as possible can prepare a letter of support and get them
to me next week, that would be much appreciated. These letters do not have
to be long. Even a few lines is fine. PDF or word is fine, even if
unsigned. You can also fax them to Patsy Ashe at 919.515.2285 .

Possible items you could include in a letter are as follows:

- - A little about yourself, your company, and the importance of IBIS
and Spice2Ibis to your company or to the Industrial community at large.

- - Something about the value of NCSU's past efforts in Spice2Ibis

- - Your willingness to participate in the proposed research through
any of the mechanisms listed. (Note, even just providing feedback on results
and tools is still valuable.)

- - A closing statement expressing your support.

Note that in the letter you do not have to specifically commit any resources
to this project BUT if you are in a position to commit or consider
committing future resources, even if it is just consideration of the
students in this project for intern positions, that would be good to
mention.

If you have any questions, feedback or thoughts on the proposal, feel free
to communicate them to Michael and I.

BTW, I do have an excellent PhD student lined up for this work. If any of
you are interested in hosting an intern this summer, please let me know and
I will put you in touch with her.

Finally, has anyone got any data or estimates on the $ value of IBIS to the
industry as a whole?

Thanks in advance,

Paul D. Franzon

Subject: [IBIS-Users] Model generation for LVDS using S2IBIS3

Hello All

I was generating IBIS model generation for LVDS using S2IBIS3 tool. But
i found that when it generates
input deck it does not apply differential input signal at the two
differential inputs.
Because of which i am not able to get good output.
Even i have declared [Diff pin] keyword. Is this bug in the tool or am
I doing anything wrong.

Also when generating deck for rise time S2IBIS3 tool attaches RLOAD
which should not be connected.
By default it connects this load resistor of value 50ohm. How to avoid this.

Thanking you
Shrikant GK

Hello All,

I am generating IBIS Models ( based on 2.0 Format) for a bidirectional IO
cell with output impedence of 32 Ohms.

Customer specification is to use Rfixture/Rload value of 50 Ohms for IBIS
Models.

But when I see my pullup and pulldown I-V curves, the loadline corresponds
to the Resistive load of 32 Ohms which is nothing but the output impedence
of driver in my Bidir cell.

I think that the pullup and pulldown I-V curves should correspond to
Resistive Load of 50 Ohms. Am I correct in assuming this ?

Or is it expected that irrespective of the value of Rfixture / Rload pullup
and pulldown curves should correspond to Zout of driver ?

Thanks in Advance

Best Regards

Chetana

Hi Chetana,

I think there is no relation between Pullup/Pulldown IV curves and
Rfixture

Rfixture is , generally, taken to be the transmission line
characteristics impedance to which the buffer will be connected. It
affects rising and falling waveforms

The customer should be a ware of the mismatch between the buffer output
impedance and the 50 Ohms line but this is not related to IBIS modeling

Yasser

Hello Chetana...
Just wanted to add that there is an excellent section in the "IBIS Modeling
Cookbook" ver 4.0 that describes the relationship between the I-V and V-T
curves (section 5.2.2) for the sake of data checking. The I-V curves can
be used to predict the drive strength of your buffer when attached to a 50
Ohm Load and as Yasser mentioned below, Rfixture is used to determine the
switching characteristics of your buffer. Just an additional note: The
output impedance of your driver can be approximated by determining the
slope of your tangent line to your I-V curve at your operating point.

Hello Experts,

* *I have just heard about IBIS-to-DML format conversion.
So. I want to know about DML format.like,

1) How DML format is different from IBIS?
2) which tool is used to convert the IBIS model in to DML model.
3) Are all latest version (v3.2 or v4.2)IBIS keywords compatible in
IBIS-to-DML conversion tools?
3) What are advantages of DML model over IBIS models.

Please also suggest me some materials on IBIS-to-DML conversion.

Regards
Edward

Edward,

You can ask Cadence for help, for DML is the model language they use.

Subject: [IBIS-Users] IBIS2DML conversion

Hello Experts,

I have just heard about IBIS-to-DML format conversion.

Regards

Edward

Subject: [IBIS-Users] IBIS modelling for Differential buffer

Hello Experts,

I have been working on IBIS models for last 7-8 months and i am quite
comfortable with single ended buffers.
But still i do not know how to make a good differential buffer model.
Can you suggest some good book referring which i can understand
differential and common mode signals properly and
develop these types of IBIS models??

Thanks and Regards
Amit

Hello Experts,

I have two questions on IBIS.

1. My IO cell can operate at two different voltages 3.3 and also at 1.8.
We deliver two separate IBIS files for these two operating voltages.

For this cell, our customer needs to use different voltages at same
time, that is, some pins are using 3.3 V and some are using 1.8 V.

Is it possible to mix these two files into one .ibs file ?

2. The IBIS version of library delivered by us is 2.0. Is it possible for
the customer to use it in a package model whose IBIS version 4.0. ?

1. A series of model selectors, one for each pin or group of pins that
could have different Vdd supplies, is the way to go.

2. What simulator and version does your customer have? It may be that
no matter what version model you make the customer may not have the tools
to use it.
