Yitong,

=20

Just add these two lines to your terminate_diff model:

=20

C_comp 0.0 NA NA

[Voltage Range] 1.0V NA NA

=20

These two keywords are required by the IBIS specification,

that's why you are getting the errors. You must use these

keywords even if they don't make sense for the series model.

=20

I hope this helps,

Subject: [IBIS-Users] series model

=20

Hi experts,

I created an IBIS model for LVDS buffer, it can be enabled/disabled
internal terminating resistor(100-ohm) by user=20

Could you tell me how to include this function in an IBIS file?

I edit the IBIS file as below(in red text):

=20

[Pin] signal_name model_name R_pin L_pin C_pin

|

3 Anyp a_p

4 Anyn a_n

1 Vcc Power

2 GND GND

|

[Series Pin Mapping] pin_2 model_name function_table_group

3 4 terminate_diff 1

|

[Series Switch Groups]

| Function Group States

|On 1 /

Off 1 /

|*********************************************************************

|

[Diff Pin] inv_pin vdiff tdelay_typ tdelay_min tdelay_max

|

3 4 NA NA NA NA

|

|*********************************************************************

[Model] terminate_diff

Model_type Series

|

| variable R(typ) R(min) R(max)

[R Series] 100ohm 99hm 101ohm

|

|*********************************************************************

=20

When running a syntax and IBIS parser check, there are errors as below:

=20

ERROR - Model terminate_diff: One of C_comp, C_comp_pullup,
C_comp_pulldown, C_comp_power_clamp, C_comp_gnd_clamp must be defined=20

ERROR - Model 'terminate_diff': Pullup Reference Required when No
Voltage Range is Specified=20

ERROR - Model 'terminate_diff': Pulldown Reference Required when No
Voltage Range is Specified=20

ERROR - Model 'terminate_diff': POWER Clamp Reference Required when No
Voltage Range is Specified=20

ERROR - Model 'terminate_diff': GND Clamp Reference Required when No
Voltage Range is Specified

=20

I wonder if the series model need this parameters?

If yes, what are the parameters?

=20

Thanks

Yitong

BACKGROUND

We have held many successful Summit meetings across Asia in previous years.
This year we are adding a meeting in Taipei where many national and
international high technology companies have operations. Presentations
from past events are available at our Summit archive:

      http://www.eda.org/pub/ibis/summits/

Our objective is to reach out internationally to communicate with
the local experts and to learn of regional concerns.

CONFERENCE LANGUAGE

The conference language is English, but we will plan for technical
translations in English and Chinese. So presenters can optionally
deliver in Chinese as long as an English version of the material is
    available.

IBIS SUMMIT

This meeting will be conducted as a formal IBIS Summit Meeting.
Presentations will be archived in an electronic format on our
Summits site, and minutes of the meeting will be issued. However,
no formal decisions requiring votes will be planned.

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

People involved in IBIS and interconnect model development, EDA
tool development, and digital circuit design are invited to
participate in the Summit meeting. If you plan to participate,

Have you considered an EBD model for this?

Subject: Re: [SI-LIST] Ibis model Receiver help.

Hi Tom and others,

Thanks for all the help so far. The circuit between the pins includes AC
coupling and rebias. Though the rebias is irrelevant the termination
resistor and 2 inductors are also included. Thus the clamp data will only be
a part of the model. I need to represent the AC coupling and termination
circuit. Is there any way to do this? I understand that I can tell people to
add these components to their simulations in such a fashion along with the
package model. However, it makes things a bit more complicated. I would
like to find a solution that would work within the model so the user does
not have to do anything special.

Thanks,

Peter

This is one of those questions that has the "it depends" answer. What is
the additional circuitry and which simulator are you trying to use are key
elements that have a strong bearing on the answer.

How about when the switch is in the Off state. Is there a situation where
you need to simulate that with actual data such as [Series Current] or is [R
Series] sufficient? Does the EDA tool just need a way to disable the switch
in a batch mode type simulation?

Thanks

More exactly, IBIS does not have time profile data to model the transition
of a series switch between on and off states. It is certainly possible to
convert the IBIS series switch model data to a circuit model using table
elements, in which a control signal makes the switch transition dynamically
from on to off and vice-versa. The switching time profile would have to be
set by the control signal. I believe the Cadence implementation works this
way, but I have heard of only one instance of someone using the capability
(experimentally).

I agree with Tim that automation of [Series Switch Groups] and on/off
control at the EDA tool end is lacking. I think Tim is asking the right
question, "does anyone really need it?"

The assumption is that this is not changing during simulations. There
is no information in the models that describes how these devices would
transition from one state to the other. We would need something like
the V-t tables in order to do that, but they don't exist for this
purpose.

Has anyone else seen this issues of Series Switch Groups not being

do not seem to use the Off state data. I would also be interested to hear of
the simulation usage case where someone needs the ability to switch between

Hi Arpad,

That was my assumption as well. It seems an [R Series] would be sufficient
but I suppose with [Series Current] you could have the leakage current.

For anyone interested I did put together a short article about IBIS switch
modeling that can be found at
http://www.sharksim.com/articles/ibis_analog_series_bus_switches.html. I
tried to give a little background on analog switches and a couple of
different ways you can model them in IBIS. The article is not complete yet
as I still have some additional correlation data to add but it's a good
start. Feel free to comment in this email thread or contact me off line.

Thanks to everyone who responded on and off line

Best

Tim

Tim,

It all depends on the device, but in the off state I

would not expect it to have any significant series

current that you would need to model with [Series

Current]. Series bus switches are usually in a fairly

high impedance state when they are turned off.

How about when the switch is in the Off state. Is there a situation where
you need to simulate that with actual data such as [Series Current] or is [R
Series] sufficient? Does the EDA tool just need a way to disable the switch
in a batch mode type simulation?

Thanks

Tim

Tim,

IBIS doesn't support modeling the transitions between the On/Off state.
The assumption is that this is not changing during simulations. There
is no information in the models that describes how these devices would
transition from one state to the other. We would need something like
the V-t tables in order to do that, but they don't exist for this
purpose.

Subject: [IBIS-Users] Bus Switch IBIS Models

Hi,
When you have MOSFET switch and model it using [Series Mosfet] keyword in
IBIS there are two ways to pin map it. The first way is to use [Model]
Series and just use [Series Pin Mapping] and this assumes that the switch is
always in On state. The other way is to use [Model] Series_switch with
[Series Pin Mapping] and [Series Switch Groups] and this way there can be
configured On and Off states. However I have found that most simulation/cad
tools do not fully support [Series Switch Groups] without manual
modification by end user. Modeling the switch as a Series device just Series
Pin Mapping seems to be the default supported state.

Has anyone else seen this issues of Series Switch Groups not being
supported? Even when I do some modifications for a tool to support it many
do not seem to use the Off state data. I would also be interested to hear of
the simulation usage case where someone needs the ability to switch between
On and Off states.

Thanks,

This is one of those questions that has the "it depends" answer. What is
the additional circuitry and which simulator are you trying to use are key
elements that have a strong bearing on the answer.

Hi Arpad,

That was my assumption as well. It seems an [R Series] would be
sufficient but I suppose with [Series Current] you could have the
leakage current.=20

=20

For anyone interested I did put together a short article about IBIS
switch modeling that can be found at
http://www.sharksim.com/articles/ibis_analog_series_bus_switches.html. I
tried to give a little background on analog switches and a couple of
different ways you can model them in IBIS. The article is not complete
yet as I still have some additional correlation data to add but it's a
good start. Feel free to comment in this email thread or contact me off
line.

Tim,

It all depends on the device, but in the off state I

would not expect it to have any significant series

current that you would need to model with [Series=20

high impedance state when they are turned off...

Hi,<br>
When you have MOSFET switch and model it using [Series Mosfet] keyword in I=
BIS
there are two ways to pin map it. The first way is to use [Model] Series and
just use [Series Pin Mapping] and this assumes that the switch is always in=
 On
state. The other way is to use [Model] Series_switch with [Series Pin Mappi=
ng]
and [Series Switch Groups] and this way there can be configured On and Off
states. However I have found that most simulation/cad tools do not fully
support [Series Switch Groups] without manual modification by end user.
Modeling the switch as a Series device just Series Pin Mapping seems to be =
the
default supported state.<br>
&nbsp;<br>
Has anyone else seen this issues of Series Switch Groups not being supporte=
d?
Even when I do some modifications for a tool to support it many do not seem=
 to
use the Off state data. I would also be interested to hear of the simulation
usage case where someone needs the ability to switch between On and Off sta=
tes.

Why do you need to do that? Isn't it sufficient to represent how the
receiver appears from the pins?

Hi experts,

I created an IBIS model for LVDS buffer, it can be enabled/disabled interna=
l terminating resistor(100-ohm) by user

Could you tell me how to include this function in an IBIS file?

I edit the IBIS file as below(in red text):

[Pin] signal_name model_name R_pin L_pin C_pin

|

3 Anyp a_p

4 Anyn a_n

1 Vcc Power

2 GND GND

|

[Series Pin Mapping] pin_2 model_name function_table_group

3 4 terminate_diff 1

|

[Series Switch Groups]

| Function Group States

|On 1 /

Off 1 /

|*********************************************************************

|

[Diff Pin] inv_pin vdiff tdelay_typ tdelay_min tdelay_max

|

3 4 NA NA NA NA

[Model] terminate_diff

Model_type Series

|

| variable R(typ) R(min) R(max)

[R Series] 100ohm 99hm 101ohm

|

|*********************************************************************

When running a syntax and IBIS parser check, there are errors as below:

ERROR - Model terminate_diff: One of C_comp, C_comp_pullup, C_comp_pulldown=
, C_comp_power_clamp, C_comp_gnd_clamp must be defined

ERROR - Model 'terminate_diff': Pullup Reference Required when No Voltage R=
ange is Specified

ERROR - Model 'terminate_diff': Pulldown Reference Required when No Voltage=
 Range is Specified

ERROR - Model 'terminate_diff': POWER Clamp Reference Required when No Volt=
age Range is Specified

ERROR - Model 'terminate_diff': GND Clamp Reference Required when No Voltag=
e Range is Specified

I wonder if the series model need this parameters?

If yes, what are the parameters?

Thanks

Yitong

More exactly, IBIS does not have time profile data to model the transition
of a series switch between on and off states. It is certainly possible to
convert the IBIS series switch model data to a circuit model using table
elements, in which a control signal makes the switch transition dynamically
from on to off and vice-versa. The switching time profile would have to be
set by the control signal. I believe the Cadence implementation works this
way, but I have heard of only one instance of someone using the capability
(experimentally).

I agree with Tim that automation of [Series Switch Groups] and on/off
control at the EDA tool end is lacking. I think Tim is asking the right
question, =B3does anyone really need it?=B2

Hi,<BR>
When you have MOSFET switch and model it using [Series Mosfet] keyword in I=
BIS there are two ways to pin map it. The first way is to use [Model] Serie=
s and just use [Series Pin Mapping] and this assumes that the switch is alw=
ays in On state. The other way is to use [Model] Series_switch with [Series=
Pin Mapping] and [Series Switch Groups] and this way there can be configur=
ed On and Off states. However I have found that most simulation/cad tools d=
o not fully support [Series Switch Groups] without manual modification by e=
nd user. Modeling the switch as a Series device just Series Pin Mapping see=
ms to be the default supported state.<BR>
&nbsp;<BR>
Has anyone else seen this issues of Series Switch Groups not being supporte=
d? Even when I do some modifications for a tool to support it many do not s=
eem to use the Off state data. I would also be interested to hear of the si=
mulation usage case where someone needs the ability to switch between On an=
d Off states. <BR>

Yitong,

Just add these two lines to your terminate_diff model:

C_comp 0.0 NA NA
[Voltage Range] 1.0V NA NA

These two keywords are required by the IBIS specification,
that's why you are getting the errors. You must use these
keywords even if they don't make sense for the series model.

I hope this helps,

Arpad

Subject: [IBIS-Users] series model

Hi experts,

I created an IBIS model for LVDS buffer, it can be enabled/disabled interna=
l terminating resistor(100-ohm) by user

Could you tell me how to include this function in an IBIS file?

I edit the IBIS file as below(in red text):

[Pin] signal_name model_name R_pin L_pin C_pin

|

3 Anyp a_p

4 Anyn a_n

1 Vcc Power

2 GND GND

|

[Series Pin Mapping] pin_2 model_name function_table_group

3 4 terminate_diff 1

|

[Series Switch Groups]

| Function Group States

|On 1 /

Off 1 /

|*********************************************************************

|

[Diff Pin] inv_pin vdiff tdelay_typ tdelay_min tdelay_max

|

3 4 NA NA NA NA

|

|*********************************************************************

[Model] terminate_diff

Model_type Series

|

| variable R(typ) R(min) R(max)

[R Series] 100ohm 99hm 101ohm

|

|*********************************************************************

Thanks

Yitong
