Subject: Problems running s2ibis2 on HP with ELDO
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Hello all, I think I can pose this question here.

I am trying to run s2ibis2 on an HP C200 with 10.20 operating system
using the latest version (v1.1) of s2ibis2.

The code has been modified to allow it to run ELDO (Mentor Graphics
Accusim kernel) as a spicetype option.
I got the code from Mentor with the understanding that the code had NOT
been verified on an HP.

The program works till it gets to the a/b001 file series and gives a
segmentation fault as shown below.

s2ibis2: [Iterate] set and file b001.out exists. Skipping run.
Trying to open file b001.out
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Any ideas on what to try? I am down in the C code trying to debug it,
but not getting very far.
Maybe someone has this version of the code working using an HP and ELDO
that is willing to share it?

Thanks in advance, Dave Brand - email address is listed below

Subject: IBIS Accuracy Specification First Draft
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Disposition: inline

(OK, so nobody is interviewing us - but we thought some of you might be
interested in this "press release.")

First Draft of IBIS Accuracy Specification Unveiled at DesignCon99

February 1, 1999 - A group of engineers from system and semiconductor
companies has been working for the past year on a specification that would
allow an IBIS datasheet (model) provider to document the results of lab
correlation. This new effort is called the "IBIS Accuracy Specification,"
and we presented our first draft at the DesignCon99 IBIS Summit. The
documents are available on the IBIS web site at
www.eigroup.org/ibis/ibis.htm under the heading "Accuracy Info." The
intention of this specification is to offer the IBIS user a quantitative
method for assessing the accuracy of an IBIS datasheet. The user can then
make a data-driven decision about whether or not an IBIS datasheet and the
component it represents are appropriate for the design application. The
IBIS Accuracy Specification is a potentially powerful tool for specifying
the purchase of semiconductor components.

The basic idea is this: the IBIS modeling engineer measures a set of test
loads called out in the spec and compares the results against SPICE "golden
waveforms" that are embedded in the IBIS datasheet (model). The modeling
engineer then applies a metric that quantifies the comparison and places
the metric results in the IBIS datasheet as comments. The user can then
run a comparison against the same "golden waveforms" using the behavioral
simulator of his or her own choosing. So we have established a link
between behavioral simulation results and the actual hardware the IBIS
datasheet is supposed to represent.

We invite the IBIS and signal integrity communities to review the IBIS
Accuracy Specification and offer their comments and suggestions. Please
send them to ibis-users@eda.org. This document is a work-in-progress; we
are already working on revision 1.2. It is our intention to take the
specification before the Electronic Industries Alliance for approval as a
formal industry standard in 1999.

Furthermore, we would like to invite any of you who has an interest in IBIS
accuracy to join us in an open teleconference call beginning February 26,
1999. This call will be held the every third week one week after the
regular IBIS Open Forum call. A formal announcement will be posted to the
IBIS reflector after the February 19 IBIS Open Forum conference call. (You
may join the reflector by sending email to ibis-request@eda.org.) The
accuracy working group will address four main topics:

1) amending IBIS to include new golden waveforms
2) revising the IBIS Accuracy Specification to 1.2
3) pursuing EIA approval
4) expanding the scope to cover contemporary I/O buffer designs.

As IBIS users, you may also be interested in a test board that we designed
as a companion to the specification. It demonstrates test structures that
implement the measurements called out by the specification. You can
down-load the schematics, Gerbers, and Cadence design source files. The
board design is public domain, and we encourage you to build your own copy
or even change the design. Please read the errata first.

My company has SPICE Models for passive components such as resistor networks and/or resistor/capacitor networks. Since I am somewhat ignorant to IBIS, I was wondering if there is any value or if it is even possible to convert these SPICE models into IBIS. From what I understand and have read, IBIS is a behavioral modeling specification for transmission line simulation of digital systems and applicable to only digital components?

Please comment.

Thank you.

Hello,

IBISv2.1 supports the Model_type [Terminator]. Using the sub-params [Rgnd],
[Rpower], [Rac] and [Cac], these networks can be modeled.

If you are using s2ibis2, it does support the above keywords.

Regards,
Syed.

Hello Thang:

The IBIS 2.1 specification allows you to describe terminator
components such as resistor and RC networks. In addition, the latest
version of the IBIS specification (IBIS 3.x) allows you to create an
IBIS file for a two pin passive component.

For more information, I'd suggest going to the IBIS webpage at
http://www.eia.org/eig/ibis/ibis.htm. You can download a copy of
the specification, as well as an IBIS modeling cookbook. For best results
look thru the IBIS 2.1 spec first -- it may have what you are looking
for.

         Regards,
         Stephen Peters

invited to join a new conference call on Friday, February 26, from 8:00 am
to 9:55 am PST (11:00 am - 12:55pm EST). This call is open to all
interested parties and will be
conducted in keeping with the spirit of the IBIS Open Forum conference
call. One half of the call will be dedicated to the business of the IBIS
Accuracy Working Group and the other half will be dedicated to general user
education and curriculum development.

The phone number is 1-608-250-9675, and the passcode 734362. Mentor
Graphics has generously donated the phone bridge for this call, and the
IBIS User's Group is very grateful.

IBIS User's Group Meeting Agenda for 2/26/99

8:00 Check-in

      Introduction of new participants
Review of previous meeting's minutes - Who will keep the minutes?
      Announcements
      Additions to the agenda

8:15 IBIS Accuracy Working Group (Does anybody like this title?)

Note: The Accuracy Working Group should make decisions and assign
work during this meeting. We should strive to conduct actual editing
activities off-line for the sake of productivity.

     IBIS Accuracy Specification 1.2 revisions
Greg Edlund would like to continue being editor.
Organize Measurement section by buffer type to allow for expansion.
Place measurement techniques in a separate sub-section to allow for
        expansion.
Change correlation levels table and corresponding sub-sections.
        Move sub-sections 1.3 and 1.4 to appendix.
Annotate VCX16244 IBIS datasheet with accuracy trailer.

     Golden Waveform BIRD
We need a champion to lead this effort.
Action for next meeting: generate a proposal to cover accuracy
        test loads.
Enlist the help of IBIS veteran(s), preferably an EDA person.

     EIA approval
Bob Haller has volunteered to lead this effort.
Which version should we go to EIA with? Vote?

     IBIS Accuracy Specification 2.0 development

     Test Board
Do we want to turn version 3 of the board?
Standard load wiring and capacitor silk screen need fixing.
Should we remove the transmission lines from the 50 Ohm loads?
Should we provide a separate ground connection for the 4-point
        probes?
Greg is on the hook to write an application note.
We need to provide a parts list.
Should we make more test boards for new types of I/O buffers?

     Other
Annotate VCX16244 IBIS data sheet with accuracy trailer.
Bob Ross has suggested we supply a SPICE model for the VCX16244.

     Work list

9:05 Education
Introduction of an interested faculty member for IBIS curriculum development
Schedule for the curriculum development phase
Schedule for the development and delivery of on-line IBIS education
Funding possibilities for curriculum and materials development

9:55 Sign-off
