[IBIS] RE: An IBIS-ISS spec question

Thanks for checking this. A cursory review of previous IBIS-ISS drafts shows no mention since rev 0.6 of global nodes. I must conclude that any intent to explicitly restrict global nodes was either never included or removed very early.

The good news is that no ".global" statement is supported in IBIS-ISS today. So, at least global nodes cannot be defined within an IBIS-ISS subcircuit.

As for solutions, Section 4.9 is the right place to include a global nodes rule. A key issue is whether we prohibit any top-level global node declarations from affecting IBIS-ISS subcircuits other than 0, or whether we would permit additional synonyms for node 0 (such as "ground" and other variations) supported in proprietary SPICEs. Further technical discussion can be moved to the IBIS-Interconnect list.

A BIRD-like process for IBIS-ISS is under development now. An announcement will be made when the system is ready for general use.

I hope the IBIS Summit is going well in Asia...

I was trying to read what our IBIS-ISS spec says about

global nodes and parameters, and I did find the definitions

on the latter on pg. 26, but I can't find anything like that

on global nodes in the document.

As far as I remember, we did have rules in our drafts about

global nodes not being supported or not being visible inside

the IBIS-ISS subcircuits, but I can't find anything about

this in the document now. Please let me know if I am missing

something, but if this fell out of the document for some

reason, I believe we should add it back as soon as possible.

What is our IBIS-ISS "BIRD" process to document such spec

change requests?
