Shee Kian Wong,
There is no inherent reason why an IBIS model can not accurately model
a buffer at high speed operation. We have effectively generated models
which duplicate spice models at > 1 Gps data rate.
In addition as I/O buffer speeds increase, it becomes more important to
design I/O drivers that are symmetrical and operate in the linear
region. This is IBIS's strength.
To make accurate IBIS models is hard work. You must have accurate spice
models, accurate package models, and generate an accurate C_comp. You
should be an experienced model developer.
What often limits the performance of any simulation is accurate
interconnect models. Generating high performance interconnect models can
be as challenging as modeling high performance I/O cells because of
faster edge rates, skin effect and dielectric losses.
regards,
Bob
